Blood Thinning Medications

Aspirin containing medications have a systemic effect on anyone consuming this drug on a daily basis. These products are known as blood thinners and, thus, they change the blood clotting ability of those taking these medications.

The ideal time to DISCONTINUE these products is 2 COMPLETE WEEKS PRIOR TO SURGERY unless otherwise direct by your surgeon. Even one pill within 2 weeks can affect bleeding.

Coumadin/Warafin - This is usually stopped 5 days prior to an elective procedure, only with approval from your famility physician.
