What Is PRO-NOX? Pain-Free Injectables

By Dr Garazo•August 12, 2019
Woman considering PRO-NOX for pain-free injectable treatments

Love Botox, fillers, and other injectables—but dread coming in for treatment because you really hate needles? We have fantastic news for you: we now offer PRO-NOX™, a safe, convenient option to make every treatment a more relaxing, comfortable, and positive experience.

What is PRO-NOX™?

PRO-NOX is a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system that you can request to help prevent or lessen discomfort and/or anxiety during minimally invasive treatments. The PRO-NOX mouthpiece is there for you to use to help you relax or reduce the intensity of your treatment—and you are in complete control. Here's how it works:

  • Simply breathe through the mouthpiece until you have the level of pain control you need. You'll stay aware, while dramatically reducing your pain and anxiety.
  • PRO-NOX takes effect instantly. You can take it right before treatment, or wait until your treatment has started to see if you really need it first.
  • The nitrous oxide is completely out of your system within a few minutes. You can return to your normal activities without side effects. This is far better than oral pain medication, which takes time to start working and impairs your ability to drive and work safely for hours afterward.

What is nitrous oxide and is it safe?

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a naturally occurring gas that acts as a weak general anesthetic when inhaled. It has been used safely in medicine for well over a century to relieve pain during surgical procedures, labor and childbirth, and dental procedures.

Comfort is a personal thing, and some patients just really, really hate needles. PRO-NOX can be very useful for quick, safe anxiety relief.

The gas in PRO-NOX is a blend of nitrous oxide and pure oxygen, which offers you optimal, safe pain relief without lingering side effects. The gas quickly enters your bloodstream and quickly induces an analgesic and sedative effect. However, the gas does not bind with hemoglobin or alter any cells, so it completely exits your system after a few breaths of normal air.

Do injectables hurt?

For the most part, injectables are not painful treatments. Since Dr. Garazo performs injections personally, you can rest assured that treatment will be administered as delicately and accurately as possible. Most patients feel something akin to a brief sting or pinch and some pressure (with fillers), although some say they hardly feel anything.

PRO-NOX takes effect instantly but completely leaves your system within a few minutes—a huge benefit over oral pain medication.

PRO-NOX for skin resurfacing patients too!

Depending on your needs, you may find it helpful to take the edge off during a deeper chemical peel—and we'll be happy to add PRO-NOX to any of these treatments at our Skin Care Clinic.

Additionally, if you are undergoing an in-office skin cancer excision, you may be able to use PRO-NOX too! Dr. Garazo can also help to decide if it's an appropriate pain relief method during your consultation.

Ask us about PRO-NOX at your next appointment

We care deeply about our patients' safety, comfort, and happiness, and bringing PRO-NOX to our practice is sure to be a game-changer for many of you! If you're interested in trying PRO-NOX during your next Maryland Botox, injectable filler, or skin resurfacing treatment, simply let us know at the beginning of your appointment.
