Regarding cauterized wounds:
This page details the post-procedure guidelines of Dr. Garazo and his staff. They are experienced and knowledgeable about caring for post-procedure wounds. They explain the steps for caring for a cauterized area below. Please read these instructions carefully; if you have any questions after reading them, do not hesitate to contact us at (301) 791-1800.
- Cauterized areas will form a scab after your surgery. This is normal.
- Apply alcohol to the area three (3) times a day, avoiding your eyes, until the scab falls off.
- Keep the areas uncovered as much as possible. Cover only if clothing irritates the area.
- DO NOT cover area with makeup until the scab falls off naturally.
- The scab will typically fall off in 7–14 days. For the best results, DO NOT PICK THE SCAB OFF!
- Use only NON-ASPIRIN pain relievers such as Tylenol. Refer to the blood-thinning medication list at /post-surgical-care/blood-thinning-medications.
- If bleeding occurs, apply firm, constant pressure with a gauze pad for 30 CONTINUOUS minutes. DO NOT lift the gauze before 30 minutes. It should stop.
