What Is Microneedling

Microneedling involves a pen-type device with dozens of tiny, short needles, which are applied to the skin's surface to address wrinkles, large pores, stretch marks, and other blemishes. By triggering your skin's natural regeneration process, microneedling can improve skin tone and texture without chemicals, excessive heat, or harsh abrasives.

This technology has rapidly gained popularity among celebrities, plastic surgeons, and skincare professionals for its safety, convenience, and effectiveness in rejuvenating the skin. Treatment is quick, and there is no downtime.

For certain patients, microneedling can achieve similar results to laser resurfacing with less discomfort and a lower risk of side effects. We are pleased to offer this treatment at Plastic Surgery Services, giving many patients a promising alternative to more invasive options.

Types of Microneedling

Microneedling can be performed as a standalone treatment or enhanced with add-on options for greater comfort and results. The Eclipse MicroPen™ system is used for all treatments at our Hagerstown practice.

Eclipse MicroPen™ Treatment

The Eclipse MicroPen™ creates microscopic channels in the skin to stimulate collagen production, improving fine lines, acne scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and overall skin texture and tone.

Microneedling With PRO-NOX™

PRO-NOX is an optional nitrous oxide add-on that lets you self-administer comfort relief during treatment. It takes effect in seconds and wears off quickly with no lasting effects — ideal for anxious or sensitive patients.

What to Expect From Microneedling

Microneedling is an in-office procedure at our skincare clinic. A small hand-held device is pressed over the skin in the treatment area. Most patients compare the sensation to sandpaper brushing against the skin. A topical anesthetic is applied beforehand to boost your comfort.

Consultation

Dr. Garazo and our licensed aesthetician evaluate your skin and discuss your goals to determine if microneedling is the right treatment for you.

Preparation

A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area to ensure your comfort before the procedure begins.

Social Readiness

Before and after view of skin concerns treated by microneedling at Plastic Surgery Services in Hagerstown, MD

Microneedling is effective for a range of common skin concerns. By stimulating the skin's natural healing process, treatments can visibly improve texture, tone, and the appearance of various blemishes across different skin types.

Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Microneedling stimulates collagen production, visibly reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nose, and mouth for smoother, more youthful-looking skin.

Acne Scars

By promoting new skin cell growth, microneedling improves the appearance of acne scars on the face and body over a series of treatments.

Stretch Marks

Microneedling encourages elastin and collagen production, gradually reducing the visibility of stretch marks on various body areas.

Hyperpigmentation & Age Spots

Microneedling improves skin tone by encouraging skin cell turnover, helping to reduce dark spots and uneven pigmentation.

Large Pores

The collagen-stimulating effects of microneedling can help minimize the appearance of enlarged pores over time.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment with no required downtime. Most patients return to daily activities the same day. Results develop gradually as the skin produces new collagen in the weeks following treatment.

Immediate Post-Treatment Effects

Post-procedure redness is common and typically resolves within about 3 days. Many patients notice an improved glow to the skin shortly after treatment.

Activity Guidelines After Treatment

No downtime is required. Patients can return to daily activities the same day, though strenuous activity and sun exposure should be limited temporarily.

When Results Become Visible

Noticeable improvements in skin tone, texture, and appearance are usually apparent about 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, with continued improvement over several months.

Maintaining Your Results

Most patients achieve optimal results after 3 to 6 treatments, spaced one to two months apart. Maintenance treatments help preserve long-term improvements.

Microneedling offers a range of skin benefits with minimal discomfort and no surgical downtime, making it one of the most accessible skin rejuvenation treatments available.

Reduces Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Microneedling stimulates collagen production, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for smoother, younger-looking skin.

Improves Skin Texture & Tone

Regular sessions enhance overall skin texture and tone, addressing uneven pigmentation and giving skin a healthier, natural glow.

Safe for All Skin Types

Unlike some laser treatments, microneedling is safe for all skin types and colors, with minimal risk of discoloration or scarring.

Non-Surgical With No Downtime

As a minimally invasive procedure, microneedling requires no extensive downtime, making it a convenient option for skin rejuvenation.

Microneedling is considered safe for most patients when performed by a trained professional. Dr. Garazo and our licensed aesthetician take care to evaluate each patient's skin prior to treatment to minimize risks.

Temporary Redness & Irritation

Redness and mild irritation are the most common effects following microneedling, typically resolving within a few days.

Not Suitable During Breakouts

Microneedling should not be performed on skin with active acne outbreaks or certain other skin conditions. A consultation will determine your suitability.

Hyperpigmentation Risk

In rare cases, particularly with darker skin tones, temporary post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur. Our team takes precautions to minimize this risk.
