Lip Augmentation

Your Maryland Lip Enhancement Options

Lip enhancement has been around since the 1960s, but with the recent advancements in plumping techniques and the proliferation of full-lipped movie stars in the media, lip enhancement has gained popularity in recent years. Plastic Surgery Services offers to create full, plump lips that add character and definition to the faces of both men and women because not everyone is naturally blessed with them.

As you age, your lip volume can decrease, creating not only thinner, less robust lips, but unwanted lip creases and wrinkles as well. Luckily, for those in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, Plastic Surgery Services offers several effective lip enhancement methods, sought by to both men and women in the Hagerstown area.

Dr. Henry Garazo offers an array of lip enhancement options, including fat injections, Restylane® (hyaluronic acid), and collagen. Since each of these options has its own unique advantages, Dr. Garazo will help you determine which option will best meet your lip enhancement goals through careful consultation.

  • Fat Injections use fat harvested from your own body to add fullness and volume to your lips. Using a liposuction method to extract a small amount of fat from your hips, abdomen, or other areas, the fat is then prepared and injected into your lips for a soft, natural-looking enhancement. This method’s use of your own tissue offers the advantage of natural-looking results and the impossibility that your body will reject the injected tissue. Fat injection lip enhancement is an outpatient procedure performed under local or light general anesthesia. Patients can generally return home within hours after treatment, and the results can last from 6 months to several years. Read more about fat injections.
  • Restylane® injections are composed of a non-animal filler that is made from hyaluronic acid, similar to that which occurs in the human body. It requires no allergy testing and offers results that last up to six months. Restylane® can be used to restore lip volume as well as sculpt your lip line for a more defined look. Because Restylane® is not transferred from your own body, no liposuction is required, so it can be injected in a simple office procedure. Read more about Restylane®.
  • Injectable collagen allows for the precise sculpting of your lip border as well as increased lip volume. It can be derived from either human dermis or from purified bovine collagen, which requires allergy testing before the procedure. The results of collagen injections last from 3 to 4 months in most patients.

Pain-free lip injections with PRO-NOX™

While many non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments are tolerable to most patients, we want to make sure your experience is as relaxed and comfortable as possible. That’s why we now offer PRO-NOX as an add-on option for your lip enhancement treatment.

What is PRO-NOX?

Have you ever heard of “laughing gas?” We typically think of the dentist when we hear nitrous oxide, but its ability to help ease discomfort and make you feel calmer can be a benefit in many situations—including your next cosmetic treatment at Plastic Surgery Services!

PRO-NOX is a self-administered nitrous oxide system that gives you control of your own comfort during treatment. Simply breathe through the mouthpiece when you need a bit of a relief, and the PRO-NOX system will deliver oxygen and nitrous oxide. You’ll feel it take effect in a matter of seconds—and when you’re done, it will wear off just as quickly. With no lasting effects, PRO-NOX is a great way to ease your pain and anxiety and then get back to your day.

Lip enhancement can add volume to your lips for a more voluptuous look or create subtle changes, adding proportion to your face. Maryland cosmetic surgeon Dr. Henry Garazo offers an array of effective, non-surgical lip enhancement choices that can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery, for a more complete rejuvenation.

  • Increased Volume: Lip fillers and fat injections can add volume to thin lips, creating a fuller, more voluptuous appearance that is often associated with youth and beauty.
  • Enhanced Shape: These procedures can improve the shape of the lips, providing more definition and contouring to create a more desirable and symmetrical lip outline.
  • Reduced Fine Lines: Fillers can also help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, contributing to a more youthful look not only of the lips but the surrounding area as well.
  • Minimal Downtime: Non-surgical lip enhancement procedures typically require little to no downtime, allowing patients to return to their daily activities shortly after treatment.
  • Immediate Results: One of the significant advantages of lip fillers is the immediacy of the results, with patients seeing an enhancement right after the procedure.
  • Anesthesia: Medication used to prevent pain during the procedure. For lip enhancement, local anesthesia may be applied to numb the lip area.
  • Collagen: A natural protein that adds volume and structure to the lips. Previously a common filler material, though now often replaced by newer, longer-lasting substances.
  • Dermal Fillers: A broad category of substances injected into the lips to add volume, shape, and structure. Common types include hyaluronic acid fillers.
  • Fat Grafting/Fat Transfer/Fat Injections: A procedure that involves taking fat from one area of the patient’s body (such as the abdomen or thighs), processing it, and then injecting it into the lips to add volume and shape. This method offers a natural alternative to synthetic fillers and can provide long-lasting results.
  • Hyaluronic Acid (HA): A naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps add volume and hydration. HA fillers are widely used for lip augmentation due to their effectiveness and reversibility.
  • Lip Augmentation: The process of enhancing the volume, shape, and overall appearance of the lips through surgical or non-surgical methods.
  • Lip Fillers: Injectable treatments used to increase the volume and improve the shape of the lips. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are the most commonly used.
  • Lip Lift: A surgical procedure that shortens the space between the nose and the top of the lip, enhancing the lip’s shape and increasing the visibility of the upper lip to create a fuller appearance.
  • Lip Lines: Fine vertical lines that appear on the lips due to age, smoking, or repeated muscle movements. Lip enhancement procedures can help minimize the appearance of these lines through volume addition or skin treatments.
  • Perioral Lines: Fine lines that appear around the mouth, often addressed during lip enhancement procedures either with fillers or laser treatments.
  • Recovery Time: The period needed to heal after a procedure. For non-surgical lip enhancement, this is typically short, with most patients resuming normal activities immediately or within a few days.
  • Revolumization: The process of adding volume to the lips, typically achieved with injectable fillers, to create a fuller, more youthful appearance.
  • Silicone Implants: Permanent lip enhancement options that involve the surgical insertion of silicone implants to add volume to the lips.
  • Volume Loss: The reduction in lip fullness that can occur with age, leading to thinner, less defined lips. Lip enhancement procedures aim to counteract this loss.
