Microneedling

Reduce wrinkles, acne scars & more with Eclipse MicroPen

Trying to cover up scars, age spots and fine lines with makeup day after day can get tedious—not to mention expensive. Wouldn’t it be nice to start each day with your skin already clear, smooth and bright? Of course it would, and microneedling can help you get closer to that goal.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling involves a pen-type device with dozens of tiny, short needles, which are applied to the skin’s surface to address wrinkles, large pores, stretch marks, and other blemishes. By triggering your skin’s natural regeneration process, microneedling can improve skin tone and texture without chemicals, excessive heat, or harsh abrasives.

This brand-new technology has rapidly gained popularity among celebrities, plastic surgeons, and skincare professionals for its safety, convenience, and effectiveness in rejuvenating the skin. Treatment is quick, and there is no downtime.

For certain patients, microneedling can achieve similar results to laser resurfacing with less discomfort and a lower risk of side effects. We are excited to offer this new treatment at Plastic Surgery Services, as it gives many patients a promising alternative to more invasive options.

Before and after microneedling, facial fat injections, and dermal fillers
Microneedling is perfect paired with other non-surgical treatments for comprehensive, minimally-invasive facial rejuvenation. Individual results may vary.

How microneedling helps to refresh your skin

Microneedling works by making hundreds of microscopic openings in the skin in the treatment area. This creates very low-grade “injuries” to the skin. These are harmless and virtually unnoticeable from the outside, but your body picks up on these microscopic injuries and sets the natural healing process in motion, accelerating collagen production and repairing damaged skin to reveal smoother, more radiant skin.

Using microneedling, we can help:

  • Visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nose or mouth
  • Improve acne scars and other scarring on the face or body
  • Reduce the appearance of stretch marks
  • Minimize dark spots or hyperpigmentation
  • Restore a brighter, more glowing complexion

We use the Eclipse MicroPen™ system, which is designed for faster, more comfortable treatment than earlier microneedling systems, and in our experience achieves predictable, consistent results.

Pain-free microneedling with PRO-NOX™

While many non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments are tolerable to most patients, we want to make sure your experience is as relaxed and comfortable as possible. That’s why we now offer PRO-NOX as an add-on option for your microneedling treatment.

What is PRO-NOX?

Have you ever heard of “laughing gas?” We typically think of the dentist when we hear nitrous oxide, but its ability to help ease discomfort and make you feel calmer can be a benefit in many situations—including your next cosmetic treatment at Plastic Surgery Services!

PRO-NOX is a self-administered nitrous oxide system that gives you control of your own comfort during treatment. Simply breathe through the mouthpiece when you need a bit of a relief, and the PRO-NOX system will deliver oxygen and nitrous oxide. You’ll feel it take effect in a matter of seconds—and when you’re done, it will wear off just as quickly. With no lasting effects, PRO-NOX is a great way to ease your pain and anxiety and then get back to your day.

Ask us about including PRO-NOX during your next appointment or contact us for more information!

What to expect from Eclipse MicroPen microneedling

Microneedling is an in-office procedure at our skincare clinic. Microneedling is performed using a small, hand-held device, which is pressed over the skin in the treatment area. Most patients compare the sensation to sandpaper brushing against the skin; however, you will be given a topical anesthetic to help boost your comfort.

  • Reduces Fine Lines & Wrinkles: Microneedling stimulates collagen production, which can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leading to smoother, younger-looking skin.
  • Improves Skin Texture & Tone: Regular microneedling sessions can enhance overall skin texture and tone, addressing uneven skin pigmentation and giving the skin a healthier glow.
  • Treats Common Skin Concerns: By promoting new skin cell growth, microneedling is effective in reducing the visibility of acne scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, and other types of scarring.
  • Enhances Skin Elasticity: The increased collagen and elastin production resulting from microneedling can improve skin elasticity, making it firmer and more supple.
  • Enables Better Absorption of Skincare Products: By creating micro-channels in the skin, microneedling enhances the absorption and efficacy of topical skincare products.
  • Safe for All Skin Types: Microneedling is safe for all skin types and colors, offering a cosmetic solution with minimal risk of discoloration or scarring.
  • Non-Surgical: As a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure, microneedling requires no extensive downtime, making it a convenient option for skin rejuvenation.
  • Collagen: A protein in the skin that gives it structure, firmness, and elasticity; microneedling stimulates collagen production to repair and rejuvenate the skin.
  • Dermaroller: A handheld roller device covered with tiny needles, used in microneedling to create micro-injuries on the skin’s surface to stimulate healing and rejuvenation.
  • Elastin: A protein that helps skin return to its original position when poked or pinched, with microneedling promoting its production for improved skin elasticity.
  • Hyperpigmentation: Darkening of an area of skin caused by increased melanin; microneedling can help in reducing hyperpigmentation by encouraging the turnover of the skin layer.
  • Micro-injuries: Small wounds created by microneedling needles that trigger the skin’s natural healing process, leading to skin rejuvenation.
  • Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy): A cosmetic procedure that uses fine needles to create thousands of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing processes.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark spots that can appear on the skin after injury or inflammation, including those potentially caused by microneedling, especially in darker skin tones.
  • Recovery Time: The period required for the skin to heal after a microneedling session, typically a few days during which redness and swelling subside.
  • Scar Reduction: The process of diminishing the appearance of scars through repeated microneedling sessions, promoting new skin growth and collagen production.
  • Serums: Specialized skincare products that can be applied during or after microneedling to penetrate deeper into the skin through the micro-channels created, enhancing the treatment’s effectiveness.
  • Stretch Marks: Streaks or stripes on the skin, which can be treated and reduced in appearance through microneedling by stimulating collagen and elastin production.
  • Topical Anesthetic: A cream or gel applied to the skin before a microneedling procedure to numb the area and minimize discomfort.

Am I a good candidate for microneedling?

If you are bothered by finer wrinkles around the eyes, nose or mouth, acne scars, age spots, or stretch marks, microneedling may be a good option for you. Unlike some laser or chemical resurfacing treatments, microneedling is safe for most skin types, including darker skin. However, microneedling shouldn’t be used if you are experiencing active acne outbreaks or certain other skin conditions. Dr. Garazo and our licensed aesthetician will help you determine the most appropriate, safe treatment option for your needs at your consultation. It’s possible that a different kind of treatment, such as a facial or chemical peel, might be a better fit for your skin.

When will I see results?

Many patients notice an improved “glow” to the skin shortly after treatment. However, post-procedure redness is common for about 3 days or so following treatment. Noticeable improvements in skin tone, texture and appearance are usually apparent about 1 or 2 weeks after treatment, and improvements can continue for several months as the skin produces new collagen.

Typically, patients experience the most satisfying results after a series of 3 to 6 microneedling  treatments, spaced one or two months apart. Deeper or more severe blemishes will require more treatments, while more surface-level imperfections may improve enough for your satisfaction after just one or two treatments.
